Welcome Message from Ms. Shelton

ksheltonWelcome to Sugar Creek Elementary School where your children will have many wonderful opportunities to develop lifelong thinking and learning skills in fun innovative ways.  Sugar Creek prides itself on its welcoming environment and high expectations for student success.  We strive to maintain high achievement scores while developing a strong sense of character.  We believe in positive reinforcement, recognizing good behavior, and celebrating academic growth.

Sugar Creek teachers know it’s important to make learning fun and engaging.  Field trips, virtual learning, technology, and curricular integration with the arts are just a few ways we engage students authentically.  We believe in developing the whole child and support a wide variety of after school events and clubs that target many different interest groups.  We are also known for our participation in state competitions including Math Bowl and Spell Bowl.

Southern Hancock Schools are leading the charge in technology innovation and will continue to grow and change with the times.  Sugar Creek Elementary is excited to share that each student has an Apple iPad or MacBook laptop that they use at school and at home.  We are one of few districts in Indiana that can activate e-learning days when inclement weather approaches.  Rather than scheduling snow make up days later in the year, students will continue their learning using their school device at home.  So many wonderful advances are happening due to this project and we will continue to enhance our curriculum with technology.

Community partnerships and parental involvement are especially important at Sugar Creek Elementary.  Throughout the community you will often find our teachers engaging in conversation with other parents, watching a sporting event or arts celebration, or attending a community event.  We have a tremendous amount of school pride and enjoy showing it off during school spirit days.  We are also proud of our Parent Teacher Organization.  They are highly involved both inside and outside the classroom.  The School Carnival is one of PTO’s biggest events and a long standing tradition for our school community.

As the new principal, I have made it my goal to keep the many traditions that make Sugar Creek Elementary special while maintaining our high expectations for learning.  Our teachers and staff are innovative, compassionate, and dedicated to our school and students.  We look forward to an exciting year filled with learning and fun!

Thank you for sharing your children with us at Sugar Creek Elementary.
